Storm damage cost in Utah — at a glance
- Interior water from storm (wind-driven rain, roof leak): $3,500-$12,000 typical.
- Wind damage (roof, siding, fencing): $2,500-$25,000+ depending on area.
- Hail damage (roof, siding, gutters, cars): $3,500-$30,000+ for structure.
- Combined wind + water (storm that opens roof + rain): $8,000-$45,000+.
- Insurance: windstorm and hail are covered under standard Utah homeowner’s policy. Flood from the same storm needs separate NFIP coverage.
- Call Vault for interior water restoration: (385) 250-2825. We don’t do roofing — we restore the inside.
What Vault covers (and doesn’t) for storm damage
Vault handles the interior side of storm damage: water extraction, drying, mold prevention, drywall and ceiling repair, flooring, paint, and content restoration. We also do emergency board-up and roof tarping to stop further damage while a roofer repairs the roof.
We don’t do:
- Roof replacement or repair (we work with vetted Utah County roofers)
- Siding replacement (though we do demo and repair interior-side damage)
- Fence repair
- Vehicle hail repair
If your storm damage is primarily exterior (roof needs full replacement, siding is dented from hail), start with a roofer. If water came through the roof into the house, start with us OR concurrent with the roofer.
Typical interior storm restoration scope ranges
| Scope | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Roof leak into one bedroom ceiling, caught early | $2,500-$5,500 |
| Wind-driven rain through a window, one room | $3,500-$6,500 |
| Multiple ceilings from attic water intrusion | $5,500-$12,000 |
| Hail-shattered skylight, interior cascade | $4,500-$9,500 |
| Tree limb through roof, open-air water | $8,500-$25,000+ |
Emergency board-up and tarp pricing
Vault’s board-up and roof tarp services (within hours of the storm):
- Window board-up: $150-$300 per window
- Roof tarp (standard roof): $500-$1,500
- Roof tarp (steep or complex roof): $1,000-$3,500
- Entry door board-up: $200-$450
These are temporary measures to prevent further damage; roofer replaces or repairs the permanent structure.
Insurance coverage for storm
Covered under standard Utah homeowner’s:
- Wind damage (including from tornadoes, which Utah does see occasionally)
- Hail damage
- Rain damage that enters through a storm-created opening (e.g., wind blew off shingles, rain came in)
- Lightning damage
- Falling tree or branch damage
Not covered under standard homeowner’s:
- Flood from rising groundwater or stream overflow (needs NFIP or private flood insurance)
- Pre-existing roof damage “revealed” by the storm
- Damage from deferred maintenance (unsecured outdoor items, cracked chimney seals)
Hail-specific notes for Utah
Utah County sees roughly 2-4 hailstorms per year that reach damaging size (1 inch diameter or larger). Insurance claims after a hailstorm often involve:
- Granule loss on asphalt shingles (full roof replacement at 10+ year age)
- Dented metal flashing and gutters
- Dented siding (vinyl, aluminum, steel)
- Shattered skylights and window glass
- Interior ceiling damage from skylight breaks
Watch for storm chasers after hail events — out-of-state crews knock door-to-door offering free inspections and pressuring you into claims. See red flags of restoration scams.
