The Loss Event

The homeowners left for a 5-day family vacation on July 22, 2024. Diagnostic Sequence

Key Learnings

  • Ice maker supply lines are the single most common source of catastrophic vacation-duration water losses. Preventive replacement every 5 to 7 years and use of quarter-turn shutoff valves at the supply source (rather than saddle valves, which are more failure-prone) reduce this failure mode substantially.
