Water Damage Restoration in North Park, Provo
A hose bib can freeze and split inside the wall, where you can’t see it. Often nothing shows until the pipe thaws and water starts running. In January 2026 that happened in a North Park home, flooding a basement storage room. Vault made flood cuts and dried the wall.

Frozen hose bibs and leaks inside the wall
The pipe feeding an outdoor spigot runs through the exterior wall. If a garden hose is left connected in freezing weather, water trapped in the pipe can freeze and split it inside the wall. The leak usually starts when the pipe thaws, or the next time someone turns on the spigot.
- Disconnect hoses before the first freeze. A connected hose holds water in the line and is a common cause of split hose bibs.
- Shut off and drain outdoor faucets if your home has an interior shut-off valve for them, or install frost-free hose bibs.
- What a flood cut is: wet drywall is cut off in a straight line above the water line, and wet insulation is removed. That opens the wall cavity so the framing can dry.
- If you see water at the base of an exterior wall in winter, turn off the main and call. The leak is usually inside the wall, not where the water shows.
If it happens in your North Park home
- Stop the water at the fixture’s shut-off valve, or at the main if you can’t find the source.
- Stay safe. Keep away from water near outlets, cords or the electrical panel, and from any ceiling that’s sagging.
- Photograph everything before you move anything, for your insurance claim.
- Move belongings off wet floors, and leave the carpet and drywall in place so moisture readings can be taken first.
